OSOGBO — Organised labour in Osun State, led by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has called on Governor Ademola Adeleke to introduce support measures to cushion the impact of rising living costs on workers and pensioners.
The appeal was made during the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration, where labour leaders highlighted the growing economic pressures facing workers amid inflation and broader economic challenges.
They also urged the state government to address vacancies within the senior cadre of the civil service, particularly at the level of permanent secretaries, to strengthen administrative efficiency.
Speaking on the theme of the celebration, labour representatives noted that insecurity and poverty continue to affect workers’ welfare and productivity, stressing the need for policies that protect livelihoods and improve working conditions.
The union commended the governor’s efforts on workers’ welfare since assuming office in 2022, while encouraging sustained engagement to address current challenges.
In his address, Governor Adeleke reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare, pledging continued collaboration with labour unions to improve working conditions and safeguard rights.
He assured workers that his government would maintain policies aimed at enhancing their wellbeing and creating an enabling environment for productivity.
The event featured participation from labour leaders, government officials, and workers across various sectors in the state.
