OSOGBO — An international non-governmental organisation, the World Institute for Peace (WIP), has called for clarification regarding the status of the commander-general of the Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS), Mr. Osatimehin Joshua Wole, and several of his colleagues.
The group said it received reports indicating that the officials have not been publicly seen for some time and urged relevant authorities to provide information in line with due process and transparency.
Addressing journalists at its headquarters in Osogbo, Osun State, on Tuesday, the Executive Director of WIP, Mr. Lamina Kamiludeen, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for initiatives aimed at strengthening security in forest and rural communities.
He also called for continued attention to legislative processes relating to the Nigeria Forest Security Service, noting its potential contribution to community-based security efforts.
Kamiludeen said the individuals referenced had been involved in supporting security-related activities in various parts of the country, particularly in forested areas.
He added that providing clarity on their status would help address public concerns and reinforce confidence in institutional processes.
“The World Institute for Peace remains confident in the leadership of the President and believes that appropriate steps will be taken in line with the law,” he said.
The organisation also indicated plans to continue its engagement through lawful and peaceful means, while calling on stakeholders, including development partners and civil society groups, to support efforts that promote the rule of law, accountability, and community-based security initiatives in Nigeria.
