The Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, has conferred an Honorary Doctorate (Doctor of Business) on Alhaji (Dr) Muhammadu Indimi, Executive Chairman of Oriental Energy Resources Limited, for his contributions to business, education, and national development.

During the university’s 18th Convocation Ceremony in Abraka on Saturday, the university said the award recognises Indimi’s distinguished record of entrepreneurial leadership and economic contribution.

It noted his role in building an indigenous oil and gas exploration and production company with a sustained presence in Nigeria’s upstream sector.

The university also acknowledged his commitment to philanthropy and human capital development through the Muhammadu Indimi Foundation, particularly in education, scholarship initiatives, and support for vulnerable groups.

According to the institution, Indimi’s corporate leadership reflects strong governance standards and proven experience in successfully managing the demands of the energy industry, making him a model for business leaders.

The university further noted that his career combines business success with social responsibility, and serves as an inspiration to younger generations.

There is increasing emphasis across Nigeria’s oil and gas sector on community development, as operators respond to evolving expectations around structured community engagement and social investment.

Indimi’s Oriental Energy has been lauded for its social investments and community development.

Industry stakeholders say such efforts are becoming central to maintaining operational stability and strengthening relationships with host communities over the long term.

Indimi was represented at the ceremony by the General Manager, Assets, at Oriental Energy, Augustine Ekeigwe, who delivered his acceptance speech.

In the speech, he said, “Today is an incredibly special day for me,” adding that he received the honour with humility.

“With a very deep sense of humility, I am grateful for the University’s recognition of my enterprise, leadership, service, and contributions to society,” he said.
