Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos, AIG Olorundare Jimoh, on Thursday, hosted a delegation from the Shandong Provincial Public Security Department of the People’s Republic of China, with both parties seeking stronger collaboration in tackling transnational crimes and enhancing police training.
The Chinese delegation was led by Deputy Director-General Zhang Yuebo and included Zhao Hai, Vice Mayor of Dongying City and Director of the Municipal Public Security Bureau, alongside Hou Xianhe, Liu Zongbu, Wang Yuanming and Xu Wenlei and the Consul General of China in Lagos, Yan Yu Qing.
Addressing the delegation, AIG Jimoh said the partnership between the Nigeria Police Force and the Chinese security institution dated back to 2019 when retired DIG Lawal Shehu visited the Shandong Police College.
He noted that the relationship was revived in 2025 following a two-week public security training attended by 17 senior officers from Zone 2 at the Shandong Police College in Jinan City.
According to him, the training enhanced the operational capacity of the participating officers.
Speaking on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, Jimoh described China as a strategic partner in global security and development cooperation.
He commended the Shandong Provincial Public Security Department for its technological advancement in policing and crime prevention.
The AIG called for increased collaboration in the areas of cybercrime prevention, forensic investigation, technological policing solutions, transnational crime detection and capacity building for officers.
“We seek foreign police training, capacity building, cybercrime prevention, transnational crime prevention and detection, forensic investigation and technological policing solutions,” he said.
Jimoh also highlighted the strategic importance of Zone 2 Command, which covers Lagos and Ogun states, noting that Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub, hosts a large population of Chinese nationals and businesses.
He assured the delegation of continued protection for Chinese citizens and investments in the two states.
Responding, Zhang Yuebo disclosed that crime rates in Shandong Province were low and pledged support for the Nigeria Police Force in the areas of professional training and provision of equipment.
He expressed optimism that the collaboration would further strengthen security relations between both countries.
