Fast-rising Nigerian DJ, DJ Djdimplenipple, has highlighted the growing influence of women in the DJ industry, saying female DJs are steadily breaking barriers and reshaping perceptions in a space once dominated by men.
In a chat with reporters, the Lagos-based entertainer said her journey has not only been about music and performance but also about proving that women can command stages, control crowds, and build successful careers in the industry.
“When I started, there were expectations and stereotypes,” she said. “People sometimes underestimate female DJs, but we’re changing that narrative every day through our work and consistency.”
Since beginning her career in 2019, Djdimplenipple has built a strong reputation for her energetic performances and engaging stage presence. However, she notes that beyond the spotlight, female DJs often have to work twice as hard to earn recognition and respect.
“You have to be confident in your craft,” she explained. “You can’t afford to doubt yourself because people are watching closely. Every performance is an opportunity to prove your worth.”
Trained at Rise Academy in South Africa, she said the experience helped sharpen her skills and gave her the confidence to step onto bigger stages, but resilience has been key to navigating the industry.
Her performances at major events such as Warri Again, Okochiri Festivals, Tape Lagos, and Red Room, along with appearances at high-profile private events, have positioned her as one of the emerging female voices making an impact in Nigeria’s entertainment scene. Her UK tour further underscored her growing international appeal.
Djdimplenipple also encouraged more women to explore careers in DJing and the wider music industry, stressing that talent and dedication remain the most important factors.
“There’s space for everyone,” she said. “If you’re passionate and willing to put in the work, you can succeed. Don’t let stereotypes hold you back.”
She added that the increasing visibility of female DJs is inspiring a new generation to pursue their ambitions without fear.
“Seeing more women on big stages changes everything,” she noted. “It tells young girls that they can do it too.”
Looking ahead, she said she hopes to not only grow her own career globally but also contribute to empowering more women within the industry.
With her voice and presence, DJ Djdimplenipple continues to be part of a broader movement pushing for inclusivity and recognition, as female DJs redefine the sound and image of modern entertainment.
