Students admitted into medical programmes have been advised that success in the field requires not only intelligence but also discipline, resilience, and continuous learning.
This was stated by the Vice-Chancellor of Mercy Medical University, Ibrahim Muhammad, during the matriculation of 1,180 new students into various medical-related courses.
He said the global healthcare system is in need of skilled and ethical professionals to address increasing health challenges, urging students to remain focused and committed to their academic training.
“Approach your studies with seriousness and purpose. Attend lectures diligently, engage actively in practical sessions, and make use of the knowledge available to you. Success in medicine requires intelligence, discipline, resilience, and continuous learning,” he said.
Muhammad added that the institution is guided by core values of integrity, compassion, discipline, and academic excellence, noting that students are being trained not only in professional skills but also in ethical responsibility and empathy.
Also speaking at the event, the Chancellor of the university, Musa Ibeto, warned students against involvement in misconduct, stating that the institution would not tolerate behaviours that violate its code of conduct.
He said the university would support students through their academic journey but would enforce discipline where necessary to maintain standards.
Similarly, the proprietor of the institution, Abdulfatah Onifade, urged students to remain focused on their studies and avoid actions that could damage their reputation or that of the university.
He advised them to be cautious in their associations and avoid falling victim to exploitation or financial inducement, stressing the importance of academic purpose and personal discipline.
