The Southern Nigeria Traditional Rulers Council, has re-stated its support for the peace and unity of the Nigeria State.
This is as it also re-emphasized its political neutrality and readiness to partner the Federal Government to move the country forward.
Chairman of the Council and the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Dr Enitan Ogunwusi (Ojaja II), made this known while addressing the members during a crucial meeting of the Council held in Port Harcourt Rivers State.
Publicity Secretary of the Council, and Eze Aro of Arochukwu Kingdom, Abia State, His Eminence, Dr Eberechukwu Oji, in a statement on Tuesday , said the Council “remains strictly apolitical”, restating its commitment to the unity and development of Nigeria.
The Council reaffirmed support for Government’s policies geared towards economic growth and national stability.
According to the statement, “participants at the meeting emphasized the critical importance of unity, inclusivity, and collaboration in driving both regional progress and national development.”
The Council also resolved to strengthen its structure for a more influential role in Nigeria’s governance and development.
The Ooni expressed appreciation for members’ commitment and reiterated the Council’s apolitical stance.
He disclosed that resolutions from the meeting would be formally communicated to President Bola Tinubu, underscoring the Council’s readiness to partner with the Federal Government.
The Council adopted key resolutions aimed at repositioning its operations and strengthening its national relevance.
These include expanding the executive structure to accommodate more state chairmen, improving internal communication, and building a more united front to enhance its impact on national affairs.
Traditional rulers from Edo, Enugu, Imo, Akwa Ibom, Ogun and Delta states also called for sustained peace, reconciliation and internal reforms to consolidate the Council’s effectiveness.
They further reaffirmed their support for the President’s policies geared towards economic growth and national stability.
The statement said the meeting ended on a strong note of consensus, with members resolving to deepen unity among traditional institutions in Southern Nigeria and contribute more meaningfully to the country’s development.
