Quilox, the Victoria Island luxury nightclub that has defined Lagos’s premium nightlife scene for over a decade, has announced the formalisation of streaming and documentary licensing agreements through its media and content vertical, Q Studio, the company confirmed this week.
Q Studio, established to manage and monetise Quilox’s extensive archive of recorded performances, events, and brand content, has concluded licensing arrangements that will bring curated Quilox documentary content to streaming platforms. The specific platforms involved were not disclosed at the time of this report, with Quilox’s management citing contractual confidentiality obligations, but sources familiar with the matter indicated that both an African streaming service and an international platform were parties to the agreements.
The move marks a significant pivot for Quilox from a purely experiential entertainment brand into a content business with licensing revenue streams. The club’s 13-year operational history has generated an extensive visual and audio archive — including performances by some of Nigeria’s most prominent music artists, international headliners, and themed event productions — that Q Studio is now positioned to package and distribute as premium content.
According to Shola Farinloye, COO of Quilox ‘One issue that has plagued the Nigerian entertainment scene is that the stakeholders treat it as something ephemeral rather than something permanent. With Q Studio. ‘What we are turning thirteen years of moments into a permanent asset. The archive is intellectual property. It has value, and we intend to realise that value. Having run this brand for 13 years, I have seen amazing moments come and go, moments that should be immortalized just disappear like that. These are the kind of moments that help build the entertainment industry and that is why they should be preserved.’
Q Studio’s licensing strategy is understood to include episodic documentary content exploring the cultural and business history of Quilox, filmed performance archives, and brand storytelling content suitable for general entertainment streaming audiences. The studio is also managing the production of original content documenting the brand’s evolution into its current season.
Farinloye adds “ We are also hoping to use Q Studio as the vehicle through which Quilox manages its merchandise operations. For example we have been running bi-weekly merchandise drops — including collections branded ‘Memes,’ ‘Cute,’ and ‘Silly’, which are produced and distributed through the Q Studio commercial framework. The combination of content licensing and merchandise revenue represents a deliberate effort to build Our revenue base beyond table bookings and event nights. When you go abroad, these are the kind of things that look insignificant, but props that allow all these clubs abroad to tell better stories than us.”
Creative Director Olushola Farinloye, who has spearheaded the brand’s content strategy, is understood to be closely involved in Q Studio’s editorial direction. Industry observers have noted that the licensing deals, if successfully executed, would position Quilox alongside global nightlife brands such as Berghain and Pacha — both of which have developed substantial content and licensing businesses alongside their venue operations.
In a statement available in journalists, “Q Studio is the media and content production division of Quilox, established as a full-service creative studio focused on the development, production, and distribution of original film and television content. While initially associated with the management and licensing of Quilox’s archival footage and brand-related media, the studio has since expanded into a broader role as a content creation hub.
The studio is positioned as a long-term production entity with ambitions comparable to global film and entertainment companies such as Amazon Studios, Sony Pictures, and Warner Bros.. Its scope includes the development of original films, scripted and unscripted series, short-form dramas, documentaries, and stage-to-screen productions.
Q Studio operates an open creative model, collaborating with writers, filmmakers, and content creators to develop and produce original stories. Selected projects are financed, produced, and distributed under the Q Studio banner, with a focus on both local and international audiences.
In addition to in-house productions, the studio is actively exploring distribution and licensing partnerships with global streaming platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, with the aim of delivering African-led narratives to a wider global market.
The expansion into original content production reflects Quilox’s strategic evolution from a nightlife and experiential brand into a vertically integrated entertainment company, with Q Studio serving as the central vehicle for its film, television, and digital storytelling ambitions.”
The announcement arrives at a moment of growing international interest in Nigerian popular culture, driven in part by the global ascent of Afrobeats. As Farinloye explains further. “To let you know about how significant the Q-Studio vertical is, we are about to start discussions with a popular streaming platform that wants an authentic documentary content rooted in Lagos’s entertainment ecosystem. Ofcourse we are going to get paid for it and also get a partnership on the project. But more importantly that content is likely to be one in a kind that you won’t find anywhere else due to our exclusive clientele. So in a sense we are preserves of Nigerian entertainment history in that sense.”
Olushola Farinloye, widely known as Shola Quilox, is the Chief Operating Officer and Creative Director of Quilox, Nigeria’s premier luxury nightlife brand. With over two decades of experience in hospitality operations, compliance systems, and brand architecture, he has been instrumental in shaping Quilox’s identity from a single Victoria Island venue into a global lifestyle and entertainment institution. Recently named Creative Director for Quilox’s international pop-up expansion into Dubai, Accra, and London, Farinloye focuses on translating operational rigor into scalable, legacy-defining experiences.
