A former South-East spokesman for Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Chairman of the Forum of Former Members of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Dr. Josef Onoh, has dismissed reports alleging mass resignations within the Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing them as “sensational and misleading.”
In a statement issued in Abuja, Onoh refuted claims that the party in Enugu was facing internal turmoil due to alleged exclusion by Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah. He argued that the narrative was fabricated to create a false impression of division within the party.
According to Onoh, the administration of Governor Mbah has recorded “verifiable and outstanding achievements” across key sectors, including security, infrastructure, revenue generation, and human capital development.
He noted that these accomplishments have attracted endorsements from various stakeholders, including the Forum of Former Members of the Enugu State House of Assembly, grassroots movements, and pro-Tinubu groups such as the Asiwaju Renewed Mandate South East (ARMSE).
Onoh maintained that the endorsements reflect the governor’s commitment to equitable governance and adherence to Enugu’s long-standing principles of rotational leadership. He said these realities contradict claims of marginalization being circulated in some quarters.
The APC chieftain also took aim at those behind the alleged resignation claims, describing them as “accidental politicians” driven by personal ambition rather than party unity. He accused them of resorting to propaganda and threats of defection when their demands were not met, adding that such actions undermine collective progress.
Reflecting on the 2023 elections, Onoh alleged that some of the individuals now criticizing the party had failed to support the APC and its presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, during a critical period. He contrasted this with what he described as Governor Mbah’s current alignment with the federal government and support for Tinubu’s re-election bid.
He further asserted that any departures from the party would not weaken its structure in Enugu, but rather strengthen it by consolidating committed members and eliminating “fair-weather actors.”
Onoh expressed confidence in the APC’s prospects in the state, emphasizing that the electorate would ultimately determine the political landscape.
“The people of Enugu State have consistently demonstrated support for performance-driven leadership,” he said, adding that no amount of “propaganda or orchestrated exits” would override the will of the voters.
