Dignitaries from across Africa and beyond gathered in the Ashanti Region of Ghana as events marking the 27th coronation anniversary of Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II concluded on April 26, with emphasis on the role of traditional institutions in promoting cultural heritage and unity.
A key highlight of the ceremony was a symbolic exchange of royal goodwill between Ghana and Nigeria, during which the Ogiame Atuwatse III received a peace artifact from the Asantehene. The gesture underscored strengthening ties between both monarchs and reaffirmed the role of traditional leadership in cultural diplomacy.
Speaking at the anniversary, the Asantehene reiterated that traditional rulers play a supportive role to state institutions in promoting peace and stability. He emphasised the importance of effective governance, respect for the rule of law, and economic development as foundations for sustainable peace.
The celebrations concluded with a gala night at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, where commemorative gold coins were unveiled and distinguished Asante citizens were honoured.
High-profile attendees included former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, the Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, as well as other government officials, traditional rulers and business leaders.
