No fewer than 102 councillors drawn from the nine local government areas of Ogun East Senatorial District have declared total support for the Senate aspiration of Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The councillors also threw their weight behind the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for another four-year term in office.
The endorsement was formalised through a motion moved by the Chairman of the Ogun State Councillors’ Forum, Hon. Faseyi Akindele, and seconded by Hon. Babalola Emmanuel.
The Forum hinged its decision on what it described as Governor Abiodun’s “unmatched developmental strides” and “qualitative leadership” across the state.
According to the councillors, the governor has transformed Ogun State in critical sectors including infrastructure, healthcare, economy and security, among others, noting that his experience in governance places him in good stead to represent Ogun East at the National Assembly.
“We have watched the transformative leadership of His Excellency over the last seven years. His ‘Building Our Future Together’ agenda has touched every corner of Ogun East,” the Forum said.
They added, “We believe that a leader of his calibre should not retire from public service but should continue to serve at the federal level to bring more dividends of democracy to our people.”
Speaking further, Akindele highlighted the state’s airport project as one of the landmark achievements of the administration.
“Look at the airport project; it is highly commendable. Ogun State can now boast of its own airport. This will attract an influx of travellers and boost the economy of the Iperu and Ilishan axis, as well as the entire state,” he said.
The councillors also assured the governor of their readiness to mobilise support for his aspiration and ensure his emergence as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress.
In his remarks, the member representing Ijebu Federal Constituency, Hon. Femi Ogunbanwo, aligned with the position of the councillors, describing Governor Abiodun as a true democrat.
“Our amiable governor deserves a seat in the Senate at the completion of his tenure. He has a commendable track record and has allowed opposition to thrive in the state. His achievements are unparalleled. I commend this body for taking the right decision,” Ogunbanwo stated.
He also moved a motion in support of President Tinubu’s re-election bid, which was unanimously endorsed by the councillors.
