The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ajilete Ward in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State, has suspended a former Liaison Officer to Governor Dapo Abiodun, Akeem Obanla, for allegedly engaging in activities considered to be detrimental to the unity, discipline and integrity of the party.
The suspension of Obanla was announced in a statement signed by the Ward Chairman, Akeem Adeleye, Vice Chairman, Iroko Kehinde, Secretary, Ola Arogunyo and 23 other executive members, on Sunday.
In the statement made available to journalists on Monday, in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, the former GLO and his wife, Elizabeth Obanla, were equally alleged to have been involved in anti-party activities, including open sympathy and support for opposition political interests during recent political events outside the state.
It stressed that the activities of the duo have continued to violate party discipline, loyalty and ethical standards.
According to the ward executives, the decision to suspend the APC stalwart followed a pattern of actions by him and his wife, which have been deemed inimical to the interest of the party.
The statement added that the duo have repeatedly engaged in public conduct unbecoming of APC members, especially Mrs Obanla who has engaged in sustained online attacks against the leadership of the party and the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun.
It pointed out that the online attacks have taken the form of social media posts, videos, and statements containing disparaging and misleading remarks targeted at the Ogun State government and its programmes.
The statement reads further: “It is particularly concerning that these actions continue despite Akeem Obanla having benefited from the party and the present administration, having served as the Governor’s Liaison Officer (GLO) for Yewa South LG during the first term of the current administration. Instead of upholding the values and loyalty expected of a member of the party, he and his wife have chosen a path that undermines party unity and cohesion.
“The party also notes their involvement in anti-party activities, including open sympathy and support for opposition political interests during recent political events outside the state. Such conduct runs contrary to the principles and constitution of the All Progressives Congress and cannot be condoned”.
The statement, however, observed the repeated dissemination of misleading claims by the wife of the suspended party stalwart regarding key government initiatives, including the state’s electric mobility programme and the acquisition of aircraft for state operations, represents a deliberate attempt to misinform the public and discredit the achievements of the APC-led administration in Ogun State.
“The conduct of Price Akeem Obanla and Mrs Elizabeth Obanla therefore constitutes a breach of the party’s constitution, code of conduct, and the expected discipline of members of the APC.
“In view of these developments, the APC, Ajiliete Ward, Yewa South Local Government Area, has resolved to suspend Prince Akeem Obanla from the party with immediate effect, pending further review and necessary action by the appropriate organs of the party.
“The party reiterates its commitment to discipline, loyalty, and respect for leadership as indispensable values required to sustain the unity, growth, and continued success of the All Progressives Congress”, the statement concluded.
