A political group, Yayi Progressives Movement, has commended President Bola Tinubu and Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, for backing the emergence of Senator Solomon Adeola as the All Progressives Congress, APC, consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

The group’s Convener, Armstrong ‘Tope Akintunde, gave the commendation in a statement issued in Abeokuta by its State Director of Media and Publicity, Oluseun Joshua.

Akintunde described Adeola’s emergence as well-deserved, citing his consistency in progressive politics and contributions to the development of his senatorial district.

He said the choice of Adeola as consensus candidate reflected his popularity and credibility within the APC in Ogun State, noting that the development signals broad acceptance among party stakeholders.

The convener also lauded President Tinubu for what he termed a fatherly role in supporting Adeola’s aspiration, as well as Governor Abiodun for facilitating his emergence as successor ahead of the 2027 general election.

According to him, the development represents a step towards equity, particularly for Ogun West Senatorial District, which, he noted, has yet to produce a governor since the creation of the state.

“The emergence of our leader as the APC consensus governorship candidate in Ogun State is expected, given his outstanding record of service, particularly in Ogun West Senatorial District.

“I sincerely appreciate President Bola Tinubu, the leader of our great party, for supporting the aspiration of Ogun West to produce the next governor of the state.

“Historically, Ogun West has not produced a governor since the creation of the state. This development reflects fairness and inclusiveness. I also commend Governor Dapo Abiodun for making this possible during his tenure,” he said.

Akintunde added that the development signals continuity of progressive governance in the state, drawing parallels with the development trajectory in Lagos.

He, therefore, urged residents of the state to rally support for Adeola in the forthcoming governorship election.

“We appeal to all well-meaning residents of Ogun State to come out en masse to support and vote for Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, in the 2027 governorship election.

“Ogun State stands on the brink of greater transformation. While past and present administrations have made commendable efforts, the next phase of development lies in the hands of Senator Adeola,” he stated.

The group further expressed appreciation to party leaders, supporters and stakeholders within and outside the state for their continued backing, expressing optimism that the APC would grow stronger in Ogun State ahead of the polls.
