…urges INEC to comply with Court of Appeal judgment

ABUJA — The Agbo Major-led faction of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (New Nigeria Peoples Party) has distanced itself from the recent opposition parties’ summit held in Ibadan, Oyo State, saying the party neither participated in nor authorised any representative to attend the gathering.
Addressing journalists on Monday in Abuja, Agbo Major said reports linking the NNPP to the coalition meeting were misleading and should be disregarded.
He also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (Independent National Electoral Commission) to comply with a Court of Appeal judgment and upload the names of its recognised National Working Committee on its official portal.
“The NNPP categorically distances itself from the recent opposition parties’ summit in Ibadan. No recognised leader of the party attended the gathering,” Major said.
He warned that the presence of individuals previously expelled from the party at the meeting should not be interpreted as official NNPP participation.
“The presence of notable faces of our expelled members should not be misconstrued as the party’s involvement in the coalition,” he added.
Major also cautioned coalition organisers against allowing individuals to use the party’s name for legitimacy or political advantage.
He reiterated that the NNPP had no official representation at the Ibadan summit, stressing that none of its recognised leaders attended in any capacity.
Speaking further, he disclosed that the party’s electronic membership registration exercise, launched two weeks ago, had recorded significant participation nationwide.
According to him, the party is currently reviewing the process to strengthen transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness, with stakeholders including aspirants, zonal and state chairmen involved in the assessment.
Major also noted that the party leadership met with INEC on April 23, 2026, to demand compliance with court orders regarding the recognition of its leadership structure.
He warned that continued non-compliance with judicial rulings could force the party to join calls for the removal of the INEC chairman.
