NDPHC’s transformer project to improve power supply in Agbara – Adighije

…Confirms completion of equipment testing for Ogun industrial hub

The Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) has confirmed the completion of Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) for a 1x15MVA 33/11kV transformer designated for the Agbara Industrial Area in Ogun State, in what it says is a step toward improving power supply in the cluster.

Managing Director of the company, Jennifer Adighije, said the successful tests mark the readiness of the equipment for deployment, noting that the project is aimed at addressing long-standing power challenges faced by industries in the area.

She explained that the tests, conducted in India, were designed to ensure that the transformer meets required performance and safety standards before installation. According to her, the process is intended to reduce the risk of equipment failure and improve the reliability of power infrastructure.

Adighije said the company’s approach reflects a shift toward stricter quality control in the procurement and deployment of power assets. She noted that subjecting the equipment to pre-installation testing would help ensure durability and efficiency under local operating conditions.

The transformer, she added, is expected to increase substation capacity in Agbara and support the distribution of electricity to industrial users that have relied heavily on self-generation due to inconsistent supply.

Industry operators in the area have for years cited unstable electricity as a major constraint, with many incurring high costs to power their operations independently. The planned installation is expected to ease some of these pressures by improving access to grid power.

Adighije also said the project reflects ongoing collaboration between the NDPHC and international manufacturers, adding that such partnerships are necessary to meet technical standards and ensure value for money.

She reiterated the company’s commitment to strengthening power infrastructure and improving supply to key industrial clusters, noting that the Agbara project forms part of broader efforts to address gaps in electricity distribution.
