ABUJA – A civil society group, the Security and Public Affairs Analyst Forum, SPAAF, yesterday, urged President Bola Tinubu to urgently intervene in the non-resumption of Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Idris Adamu (rtd) as Chairman of the Military Pensions Board, months after his appointment.

According to the group’s Head of Secretariat, Ola Akanni Sunkanmi, since Adamu’s appointment in December 2025, has not been able assume his office as Chairman of the Board, allegedly due to some influential elements.

Sunkanmi described the situation as unacceptable, and added that the National Security Adviser had issued a recommendation letter for the appointment, while the appointee also received an official letter of appointment from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

He also warned that such developments could undermine confidence in governance structures and the orderly implementation of presidential directives.

The forum maintained that Air Vice Marshal Adamu (rtd), a retired two-star officer, is eminently qualified to lead the Military Pensions Board, given his experience and professional background. It argued that his credentials align with established practices in other security-related agencies across the country.

He (Sunkanmi) recalled that morale among officers and men was reportedly high when Air Vice Marshal Adamu (rtd) acted in the same capacity for three months, and even after his formal appointment. The group said this underscores the confidence reposed in his leadership and urged that he be allowed to resume duty without further delay.

The group also reiterated that it is time for President Tinubu to intervene in the matter, insisting that the continued denial of access to the office sabotages the Federal Government’s efforts to boost welfare of military officers as far as their entitlements are concerned, and should not be allowed.
