Apex leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Amuwo-Odofin Federal Constituency have passed a vote of confidence on Moses Olarewaju.
They also adopted him as the party’s consensus candidate for the House of Representatives ahead of the forthcoming primaries.
The decision, described as final and binding by the leaders, was reached at a high-level stakeholders’ meeting convened by a former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, and attended by party chieftains, community leaders and aspirants across the constituency.
Forty-two stakeholders participated in the meeting, with deliberations focusing on leadership capacity, grassroots acceptance and electoral viability.
At the end of the session, 40 of the 42 leaders openly endorsed Olarewaju, affirming him as the definitive choice of the apex leadership for the seat.
In a show of unity, some aspirants stepped down and aligned with the decision, pledging support for the consensus arrangement.
The endorsement was ratified through a voice vote coordinated by Obanikoro, after he sought the consent of participants to proceed with the adoption.
The leaders thereafter unanimously affirmed Olarewaju’s candidature, in what observers described as a rare demonstration of cohesion within the party in Amuwo-Odofin Local Government and Oriade LCDA.
The apex leaders stressed that Olarewaju represents their position and final decision as the APC consensus candidate, while noting that other aspirants retain the constitutional right to contest in the primaries.
They also maintained that any such move would amount to going against the collective decision and authority of the constituency’s leadership.
The development signals a strong push for unity within the party ahead of the May 23 primary election.
