ABUJA— NIGERIA’S Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Jimoh Ibrahim, assured UN Secretary-General António Guterres that President Bola Tinubu is steadfast in resolving deep-rooted grievances fueling nationwide insecurity.

Presenting his letter of credence in New York, Ibrahim delivered Tinubu’s message, highlighting Nigeria’s determination to tackle domestic and global security threats.

He stressed Africa’s pivotal role in global governance, urging a permanent African seat on the UN Security Council to bolster collective security and mirror today’s realities.

Ibrahim pledged Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to combat insecurity in the Sahel and West Africa while advancing continent-wide peace-building.

On the economy, he spotlighted Tinubu’s reforms—fuel subsidy removal, exchange rate unification, and tight monetary policies to tame inflation.

Early signs point to gains in debt sustainability, reduced inflationary pressure, and sustained investments in infrastructure and power.

Ibrahim also reaffirmed Nigeria’s dedication to multilateralism, including peace in hotspots like the Strait of Hormuz, and readiness to back UN global initiatives.
Guterres welcomed Ibrahim warmly, calling his role timely and vital. He voiced strong confidence in deepening Nigeria-UN ties to pursue shared goals.
