Leaders of the Igbo-speaking community in Lagos have paid a condolence visit to the wife and family of the late Charles Nwachukwu, assuring them of support while calling for calm and a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

The delegation, led by the President-General of the Igbo Speaking Community in Lagos, Chief Sunday Udeh, visited the bereaved family to express sympathy and solidarity during their time of grief.

Speaking during the visit, Udeh said the purpose of the delegation was to console the widow and her family, as well as to reaffirm the community’s commitment to peace and due process.

“We are here to mourn with the family and to assure them that they are not alone in this moment of pain,” he said. “At the same time, we urge everyone to remain calm and allow the appropriate authorities to investigate the matter fully.”

He emphasised the role of the Igbo community leadership structure in Lagos, particularly the institution of the Ezendigbo, in promoting peaceful coexistence and managing tensions.
Udeh noted that community leaders had already engaged security agencies, expressing confidence that the authorities would handle the matter professionally.

Also speaking, the Obi Ndigbo of Ijagemo, Dr. Anthony Ukachukwu, commended the leadership of the Igbo community for their prompt response and support to the bereaved family.

He described the late Nwachukwu as a compassionate individual who contributed to the wellbeing of others, recalling acts of kindness that reflected his character.

Ukachukwu urged unity among community members, stressing the importance of standing together in difficult times and supporting one another.

In the same vein, youth representatives of the community called for restraint and respect for the sanctity of life, urging that all grievances be addressed through lawful means.

They appealed to relevant authorities to ensure a diligent investigation, while reiterating the commitment of the Igbo youth to peace and stability.

The Ezendigbo of Ijegun-Ijeododo, Eze Chika Nwokedi, disclosed that the matter had been reported to the police and that some arrests had been made in connection with the case. He urged the public to allow security agencies to carry out their responsibilities without interference.

“We must allow the law to take its course. Justice will be pursued within the framework of the law,” he said.

Family members of the deceased, while expressing gratitude for the visit, called for justice and appreciated the support shown by the Igbo-speaking community.

The visit ended with prayers for the repose of the deceased and strength for his widow and family, as community leaders reiterated their commitment to peace, unity and justice.
