The Progressive Health Workers Forum (PHF), a body of healthcare professionals, has lauded the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom for his royal support for a free medical outreach that delivered essential services to thousands in Delta State.
Disclosing this in an official statement recently, the forum highlighted that the outreach, carried out with royal approval, was designed to expand access to quality healthcare at the grassroots and support ongoing efforts to strengthen the health system in Delta State.
Led by its Chairman, Dr. Ogbo James, the delegation had earlier paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty, Maj.-Gen. Felix Mujakperuo (Rtd), Orhue I, where they formally sought approval and blessings to conduct a comprehensive medical and surgical outreach within Okpe Kingdom.
The monarch received the team warmly and endorsed the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention to bring healthcare services closer to the people.
“The royal support we received was instrumental to the success of this outreach, particularly in ensuring community acceptance and participation,” the forum stated.
It added that the initiative was conceived to complement ongoing healthcare efforts of the Delta State Government under the leadership of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
They asserted in the statement that the monarch also commended the state government’s efforts in strengthening the health sector, making specific reference to the recruitment of over 700 health personnel as a significant step toward improving service delivery.
The forum further noted his recognition of the contributions of the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, in advancing the state’s health agenda.
The statement further said that the outreach, which held on April 7, 2026, to mark World Health Day, recorded an overwhelming turnout, with over 4,000 residents benefiting from the services provided.
These included free medical consultations, surgical interventions, HIV and hepatitis screening, blood sugar testing, genotype testing, and tuberculosis screening. Dental services such as extractions, scaling and polishing, and provision of dentures were also offered, alongside eye care services including vision screening and distribution of prescription glasses.
The exercise was delivered by a multidisciplinary team comprising doctors, pharmacists, nurses, medical laboratory scientists, and other allied health professionals, ensuring comprehensive service delivery across different areas of need.
“The level of turnout and response from residents reflects the importance of accessible healthcare at the grassroots,” the forum stated, adding that the collaboration between traditional leadership and health professionals remains vital to improving health outcomes across communities in Delta State.
The Progressive Health Workers Forum is a network of healthcare professionals committed to improving access to quality medical services through community-based interventions and strategic partnerships across Delta State.
