The Housing Development Advocacy Network (HDAN), has commended the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS), for honouring one of its distinguished past presidents, Segun Ajanlekoko, by naming a building after him at its national headquarters in Abuja.
In a statement issued in Abuja, HDAN described the recognition as a timely and well-deserved tribute to a man whose selfless service, professionalism, and commitment have significantly shaped the quantity surveying profession and the broader built environment in Nigeria.
HDAN noted that QS Ajanlekoko’s legacy extends beyond professional practice to include mentorship, institutional strengthening, and sustained advocacy for standards and ethics within the construction industry.
According to the Network, “Recognising individuals who have dedicated their lives to advancing the built environment is critical to strengthening institutional memory and inspiring the next generation of professionals.”
HDAN further stated that the decision by NIQS reflects a deep appreciation for leadership, sacrifice, and long-term impact, adding that such gestures contribute to building a culture of excellence and recognition within Nigeria’s housing and construction sector.
The Network emphasised that honouring icons like QS Ajanlekoko serves as a reminder that nation-building is driven by individuals who commit their expertise, time, and passion to the growth of key sectors such as housing and infrastructure.
HDAN also called on other professional bodies and institutions within the built environment to emulate this example by celebrating and documenting the contributions of industry leaders whose work continues to influence policy, practice, and development outcomes across the country.
The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to promoting excellence, professionalism, and sustainable housing development in Nigeria and across Africa.
