Group urges Deputy Speaker Kalu to contest Abia governorship

ABUJA – AHEAD of the 2027 general elections, the South East Youths for Progressives, SEY4P, Thursday, called on the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, to contest the Abia State governorship election.

The group made the call in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Mercy Nwaogu, where it assured massive support across the State following a resolution reached at its executive meeting.

According to the group, they are speaking and revealing the yearnings of Abia youth as they expressed confidence and trust in the Deputy Speaker, based on his pedigree and leadership style.

The group highlighted the role of Rt. Hon. Kalu in restoring the confidence of youths in the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing him as a unifying figure whose leadership continues to inspire a new wave of political participation among young people in the South-East.

The statement reads in part, “Following our Chairman’s congratulatory message and subsequent engagements, we have received numerous enquiries from members and youths across the state, seeking to know whether Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu will be on the ballot in 2027.

“There is a clear and consistent assurance from these groups that they are ready to mobilize, support, and work tirelessly to ensure his emergence.”

The group therefore urged the Deputy Speaker to heed the growing call and offer himself for service, assuring that the youths of Abia State stand firmly behind him.

Meanwhile, according to the statement, the Chairman of SEY4P, Comrade Ugah, congratulated the APC South-East Zonal Youth Leader, Chimamkpam Ogbonnaya, for his emergence, which renewed commitment among young people within the party.
