Good Friday: Akpodiete urges unity, compassion amid national challenges

ABUJA — A Delta Central senatorial aspirant, Alexander O. Akpodiete, has called on Nigerians to embrace the values of unity, compassion, and service as Christians commemorate Good Friday.

In a message marking the solemn occasion, Akpodiete said the observance of Good Friday serves as a reminder of sacrifice, love, and hope, urging citizens to reflect on these values in addressing the nation’s challenges.

“Good Friday is not just a remembrance of suffering — it is a declaration of love in action, sacrifice with purpose, and hope born out of adversity,” he said.

He noted that the symbolism of the cross highlights the importance of selfless leadership rooted in humility and responsibility, rather than the pursuit of power.

Akpodiete said Nigeria’s current realities, including economic hardship, insecurity, and social divisions, make the message of Good Friday more relevant.

“At a time like this, we must choose compassion over indifference, unity over division, and service over self-interest,” he stated.

Focusing on Delta Central, he urged residents to work towards building a more inclusive society where opportunities are accessible to all, families feel secure, and governance reflects the will of the people.

He also encouraged Christians and Nigerians of all faiths to use the period to pray for the country, particularly for wisdom in leadership and peace across communities.

“Let us extend love beyond words by supporting one another and standing together as one people,” he added.

Akpodiete expressed hope that the lessons of Good Friday would inspire citizens to become agents of positive change and contribute to national development.

He concluded with prayers for Delta Central and Nigeria, calling for renewed commitment to unity, peace, and progress.
