The General Overseer of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria, Dr. Sam Aboyeji, has urged Christians to intensify prayers for peace and national security even as Christians and non Christians across the country are faced with insecurity challenges.

Speaking at a press conference to herald the 2026 edition of the International Conference for Ministers and Leaders, ICML, Aboyeji said the conference would hold from April 13 to 16, 2026, at the church’s campground along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ajebo in Ogun State.

He disclosed that over 10,000 ministers, leaders, and church workers from Nigeria and other parts of the world have already registered for the conference, which is regarded as the church’s flagship training programme.

While several speakers including Bro. Gbile Akanni of Living Seed Ministry, Gboko, who previously ministered at the 2023 edition have been billed for the conference.

Aboyeji who expressed concern over rising insecurity in Nigeria and globally, called on Christians to rise in fervent prayers.
He lamented the increasing cases of insurgency, kidnapping, and displacement of communities, particularly in Northern Nigeria, describing them as threats to lives and national stability.
“These are not just headlines; they are real human tragedies affecting families and communities. As the Church, we must respond with compassion and spiritual authority through prayer,” he said.
Aboyeji also called for continued support and prayers for Nigeria’s armed forces and security agencies, urging divine protection and wisdom for personnel confronting security challenges.

On the ICML, Aboyeji stated that, it has its roots in the 1970s when it was known as the National Leaders and Workers Retreat before it was rebranded to reflect its expanded scope and international participation.
Aboyeji noted that the conference underscores the church’s long-standing commitment to training and capacity development, since 1955 with the establishment of the LIFE Theological Seminary by American missionaries, Rev. Harold and Faye Curtis.
He explained that the institution was founded the same year the Foursquare Gospel Church began operations in Nigeria, reflecting its emphasis on sound doctrine and structured ministerial training.
The theme for the 2026 conference, “Operating in the Anointing,” is drawn from biblical references in Acts 10:38 and 2 Kings 2:9,15. Aboyeji described the theme as a call for Christian leaders to embrace divine empowerment in their ministries.
According to him, “The Church remains committed to equipping pastors, leaders, and members to grow as devoted Christians and effective leaders, combining spiritual depth with practical competence.
“The anointing represents the Holy Spirit’s empowerment for transformation, healing, and impactful service. Without it, ministry becomes mere activity and leadership becomes burdensome,” he stated.
He expressed hope that the conference would not only strengthen Christian leaders but also contribute to spiritual renewal and positive transformation within the nation and beyond.
