An European funded project being implemented by Oxfam and other key partners are targeting no fewer than three hundred and thirty thousand vulnerable women and at least fourty four thousand households for empowerments in food banks and other social safety windows to reduce poverty in the six benefitting local councils in Kebbi state.
Speaking at the inception meeting with critical stakeholders of the project, the country director of the lead implementing partners,Tijani Ahmed Hamza said that the ten million euro investment will focus on strengthening social safety register of Kebbi state as the thrust of the investments being funded by EU- SOSAN is geared towards reducing poverty among women of all ages.
He noted that the fourty four thousands beneficiaries drawn from the six local governments in Kebbi state will receive food banks and youth among them will get training on entrepreneurships, farming and other social safety protections against poverty.
Earlier, the governor of Kebbi state, represented by his deputy Umar Abubakar Tafida commended EU, OXFAM and other partners for chosing Kebbi state for the project.
“We commend you profoundly for the huge investment in our state,on our part we will provide security and enabling environment for the success of the projects”.
He urged them to go beyond the three years stipulated for the project even as he admonished the beneficiaries to use the opportunity given to them to develop themselves economically to become self reliant.
