Jos – The Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) has expressed grave concern over the deteriorating condition of roads across Nigeria.
The Church warned that the situation poses significant risks to lives and property while hindering economic productivity and national mobility.
This position was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the Church’s 73rd General Church Council (GCC) meeting, held from 21 to 24 April 2026 at its International Headquarters in Jos, Plateau State.
The communiqué was read by the ECWA President, Rev. Job Bagat.
While acknowledging government efforts in advancing national infrastructural development, the Council stressed that more urgent and deliberate action is required.
It called on the Government of Nigeria to prioritise the comprehensive rehabilitation and sustained maintenance of critical road infrastructure nationwide.
“The Council acknowledges and appreciates the efforts of the Government of Nigeria toward advancing national infrastructural development.
“Notwithstanding these efforts, the Council expresses grave concern over the deteriorating condition of roads across the country,” the communiqué stated.
It further urged that interventions be “deliberate, transparent, and consistently implemented” to ensure durability, public safety, and measurable socio-economic impact.
Beyond infrastructure, the Council also addressed national political development, particularly the 2027 general elections.
The Church called on its eligible members to register and actively participate in the electoral process, emphasising the importance of credible leadership in shaping the nation’s future.
“The Council therefore calls on all eligible members to ensure that they are duly registered and to participate actively in the electoral process at all levels,” it said.
Members with the capacity for political engagement were encouraged to step forward responsibly, with the Council warning that the absence of principled individuals in politics often leads to poor governance and leadership deficits.
The Council also urged electoral institutions to uphold integrity, transparency, and fairness in the discharge of their duties to strengthen public confidence in the electoral process.
It further urged members to remain prayerful and discerning.
The meeting brought together delegates from 96 District Church Councils (DCCs) within Nigeria and the diaspora, reflecting the Church’s unity and global reach.
Deliberations covered spiritual growth, governance, mission, and national concerns, guided by biblical principles and denominational values.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Council reaffirmed its commitment to both spiritual and societal development, calling on members to support efforts that promote national progress and responsible leadership.
