Economic Crisis, Killings: Youth leader raises alarm, warns APC ahead of 2027

The Youth Leader of the Organization for Global Youth Peace Empowerment and Development Initiative (OGYPEDI), Mr. Japhet Omene, has urged Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to urgently retrace their steps, warning that the current state of governance has plunged Nigerians into hardship.

Omene, who spoke on the state of the nation, described the situation as a “landslide leadership failure,” stressing that citizens are grappling with worsening economic realities, including rising unemployment, persistent power outages, and escalating insecurity across the country.

He decried the continued hike in petrol prices and the soaring cost of food items, noting that many Nigerians can barely afford basic necessities. According to him, the hardship has been further worsened by increasing corruption and incessant killings of innocent citizens by terrorists.

The youth leader also expressed concern over the growing frustration among young people, stating that many youths feel disillusioned and excluded from governance and economic opportunities. He warned that such sentiments, if not urgently addressed, could have far-reaching implications for national stability and democratic participation.

Speaking on the 2027 general elections, Omene noted that political consultations are already underway across the country. However, he maintained that the prevailing economic and security challenges would play a decisive role in shaping voter behaviour.

He added that many Nigerians have lost confidence in the APC-led administration and are increasingly skeptical about its ability to deliver meaningful change.

Omene further called on the Federal Government to prioritize policies that will address unemployment, improve security, stabilize fuel prices, and reduce the cost of living, stressing that only tangible and people-oriented reforms can restore public trust.

He warned that unless there is a clear and significant turnaround in governance, the ruling party may face strong resistance from the electorate in the 2027 polls.
