The Delta State Chapter of De Norsemen Kclub International (DNKI) has strongly condemned the killing of 28-year-old Mene Ogidi in Effurun, describing the incident as unacceptable and a gross violation of human rights.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the group through its chairperson, Ayo Milan Emuobor, expressed outrage over the circumstances surrounding the death of the young man, who was allegedly shot by a police officer in broad daylight while in custody.

DNKI described the killing as “barbaric and extrajudicial,” and called on the relevant authorities to ensure a thorough, transparent, and speedy investigation into the matter so that justice can be served without delay.

The group urged the Police Service Commission (PSC) and the Nigeria Police Force to bring all those found culpable to book, stressing that no one should be above the law.

“The cold-blooded killing of Mene Ogidi has caused great pain to his family and the entire community. We stand firmly with the family and demand that justice be done,” the DNKI statement read.

The organisation also appealed to the Delta State Government and security agencies to take decisive steps to prevent a recurrence of such incidents and restore public confidence in law enforcement.

The death of Mene Ogidi has sparked widespread public outrage following the circulation of a video showing the young man pleading for his life before he was shot. The officer involved, ASP Nuhu Usman, has since been arrested and dismissed by the police authorities.

DNKI reiterated its commitment to the rule of law and the protection of the lives and rights of citizens, while calling on all well-meaning Nigerians to join in demanding accountability in this case.
