A former member representing Lagos Mainland Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Alhaji Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Kwara State.
Bolarinwa, popularly known as BOB and a former chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, made the declaration on Tuesday in Ilorin, where he pledged inclusive development, improved security, and people-centred governance.
The event attracted party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters, including the Lagos State chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Mustapha Seigo.
Speaking at the declaration, Bolarinwa said his decision to join the race was driven by a sense of duty and commitment to serve.
“Kwara requires deliberate efforts to deepen development, expand opportunities, and ensure fairness across all regions,” he said.
He pointed to his experience in public service—ranging from grassroots politics to legislative duties, including his tenure as a former Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly and party leadership—as preparation for the role.
Bolarinwa outlined key priorities of his proposed administration to include addressing insecurity, strengthening the economy through agriculture and enterprise, and investing in education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
He also emphasised youth and women empowerment, as well as inclusive governance aimed at ensuring equitable development across the state.
While acknowledging the efforts of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Bolarinwa noted that governance requires continuity and consolidation of existing achievements.
The declaration marked the formal unveiling of his ambition, with stakeholders highlighting the need for unity, peace, and collective responsibility in advancing the state’s development.
Earlier, Chairman of the Central Planning Committee (CPC), Dr. Bolaji Alabi Afolabi, in his welcome address, said the event reflected broader consultations across the state and a shared aspiration for responsive leadership.
“Feedback from residents highlighted the need for purposeful leadership, competence, and a government that listens,” he said.
Afolabi urged party members and supporters to remain united and conduct themselves peacefully as political activities gather momentum, adding that the process should be anchored on issue-based engagement.
