Young people across Kogi State are increasingly looking up to Engr. Abubakar Bashir Mohammed, popularly known as Bashir Gegu, as a mentor and role model.
Known for his youth-friendly initiatives, Bashir Gegu has invested heavily in education, entrepreneurship and skills development.
Through scholarship schemes, payment of school fees, and empowerment programmes, he has supported hundreds of young people to pursue education and establish businesses.
His recent distribution of start-up packs, including cameras, tailoring machines, and POS machines, has further boosted small-scale entrepreneurship among youths.
As a recipient of the Exemplary Leadership and Quality Service Delivery Award, Bashir Gegu has also been recognised for his efforts in inspiring the younger generation.
Many youths describe him as accessible and supportive, citing his regular engagement with communities and willingness to assist.
His life story—from a young boy in Gegu Beki to engineer, entrepreneur and commissioner—has become a source of motivation for many aspiring leaders.
With his continued investment in youth empowerment and mentorship, Bashir Gegu is steadily building a legacy beyond politics.
