Badagry 2027: Group backs Tinubu, lawmakers, warns against ‘trial-and-error’

A political pressure group, Yegovodu, “Let’s Do It Again” movement, on Tuesday endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and two All Progressives Congress, APC, lawmakers representing Badagry at the federal and state levels for a second term, citing what it described as “proven leadership” and measurable development outcomes.

The group’s President, Olufemi Iroko, who addressed party leaders, stakeholders and residents at a press conference in Badagry, Lagos State, said continuity in leadership remained critical to sustaining ongoing projects and consolidating gains already recorded.

According to him, “sustainable progress is best achieved through the continuity of proven leadership,” noting that the call reflected both an assessment of past performance and a strategic choice for the future of the Badagry division.

The group specifically commended the member representing Badagry Federal Constituency, Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan, for what it described as impactful representation, adding that his legislative activities had translated into tangible benefits for constituents.

It listed key interventions to include sponsorship and support for legislative initiatives benefiting institutions such as the Badagry University of Technology and the Nigerian French Language Village, as well as motions addressing alleged extortion along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

The group further claimed that Whingan facilitated relief materials to over 5,000 households, supported 1,200 flood victims, installed 321 solar-powered street lights, and implemented empowerment programmes targeting farmers and youths across the constituency.
In the education and social sectors, the statement credited the lawmaker with classroom construction and rehabilitation, distribution of learning materials, scholarship schemes, and welfare support for women and persons living with disabilities.

At the state level, the group also endorsed the re-election of Bonu Solomon, describing his performance as responsive to grassroots needs.
It highlighted his interventions to include bursaries and scholarships, job placements, youth empowerment programmes, and support initiatives for National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, members.

On infrastructure, the group cited electrification projects, installation of transformers, and road rehabilitation along the Gbaji-Seme and Owode-Apa corridors, alongside efforts to facilitate Bus Rapid Transit, BRT, access to improve mobility within the axis.

It added that projects such as the Ajido Youth Centre and ongoing school infrastructure development further underscored his contributions to the area.

While acknowledging the democratic right of individuals to seek elective office, the group framed the forthcoming elections as a defining moment for the Badagry division, urging voters to prioritise continuity over experimentation.

Referencing remarks at the 2026 APC National Convention, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, was quoted as advocating the re-election of performing lawmakers to ensure legislative stability, warning that frequent turnover undermines institutional memory and increases governance costs.

The group maintained that Badagry stood at a critical juncture, where stability and experienced leadership were essential to sustaining development momentum.

It, therefore, called on residents to support President Tinubu and return the two lawmakers to office, insisting that continuity remained key to consolidating ongoing projects and ensuring further growth in the division.
