A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Deji Aboderin, has endorsed the N3.3 trillion debt settlement plan approved by President Bola Tinubu to clear longstanding liabilities owed to power generation companies and gas suppliers, describing it as a decisive step towards stabilising Nigeria’s electricity sector.

Aboderin, a former APC House of Representatives candidate in 2019 and ex-Special Adviser on Public Affairs to the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi, made this known while speaking with journalists in Ibadan.

He said the intervention would help restore investor confidence and significantly improve electricity supply across the country.

“The approval of N3.3 trillion to offset debts owed to power generation companies and gas suppliers is a bold and necessary step towards revamping Nigeria’s electricity sector. It will restore confidence among investors and operators and ultimately improve power supply for Nigerians,” he said.

He urged Nigerians to support the policies of the Tinubu administration, noting that reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda are aimed at improving the welfare of citizens.

In a related development, Aboderin declared his intention to contest the 2027 House of Representatives election for the Ibadan North East/Ibadan South East Federal Constituency on the platform of the APC.

He said his ambition is driven by a desire to provide effective representation and address the developmental needs of the constituency through grassroots-focused initiatives.

According to him, his legislative priorities would centre on mass-oriented programmes and policies aimed at improving the quality of life of residents.

Aboderin also reflected on his previous attempt in the 2019 election, alleging that he was unfairly denied victory but has since gained valuable experience.

“I contested on the platform of APC in 2019. I believe I won, but what happened is well known. I have learnt from that experience and I am now better prepared,” he said.

He added that he has begun consultations with party leaders and stakeholders, starting from his Ward 9 in Ibadan South East Local Government Area, as part of efforts to build support ahead of the election.

“I have gone round the constituency and the people are calling for better representation. We need social policies that cater for all categories of people,” he stated.

Aboderin expressed confidence that he would make a meaningful impact through developmental projects if elected, aligning his agenda with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope vision.

He also argued that the eight-year administration of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State is sufficient, urging residents to support the APC in the next election cycle.
