The African Democratic Congress in Amuwo-Odofin area of Lagos State has held its Annual General Meeting to formally adopt newly elected party leaders across wards and the local government.
The meeting, which took place in FESTAC, brought together over 60 party members, including ward executives and key stakeholders, as part of efforts to strengthen internal structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Among those in attendance were a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Amuwo-Odofin Constituency I, Hon. Stella Foluke Osafile; the party chairman in Amuwo-Odofin, Pastor Emmanuel Peter Okibie; Deputy Chairman, Ayinde Habeeb; Hon. Laurence Ekpe, and other party chieftains.
Speaking at the event, Osafile said the meeting was convened to harmonise party members across the wards following the executive congress.
She said, “What we are doing here today is having a constituency general meeting after the executive congress. It is an opportunity for members across the wards to come together and synergise on the way forward in line with directives from the national leadership.”
Osafile expressed confidence in the party’s chances in the 2027 elections, stating that ADC would be a strong contender at all levels. She cited her performance in the 2023 election as evidence of growing support for the party in the constituency.
“Nigerians are tired of rhetorics. They truly want change. For instance, in the history of Amuwo-Odofin, it used to take about 2,500 to 3,000 votes to win in the House of Assembly. But in my case, 16,000 votes were declared, and I had up to 21,000. So, I can say that ADC is a strong contender when it comes to the 2027 election,” she added.
On his part, Okibie said the meeting also served to ratify the outcomes of the recently concluded executive congress.
He disclosed that the party currently has 21 executives across its 11 wards and 31 executives at the local government level, bringing the total number of leaders to over 260.
“As you know, ADC is like a new baby. So what we have now is the coalition of so many other parties, and we have delivered before while we were in the Labour Party and in PDP, so we can deliver again come 2027. Nigerians are going to see what we call happiness because ADC will bring back joy for Nigerians,” he said.
Okibie noted that the party was building a strong grassroots structure capable of delivering electoral victory in 2027.
He added that ADC in Amuwo-Odofin is part of a broader coalition of political actors seeking to provide an alternative platform for Nigerians.
