The National Congress Committee of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has successfully conducted its Local Government Congresses in Borno State, with the committee chairman, Alhaji Musa Halilu Ahmed, hinted that the party adopted a consensus model to safeguard its internal unity.

Speaking in Maiduguri, the state capital attracted R&B suite, Ahmed, a prominent chieftain of the party, explained that the decision followed a strategic directive from the national leadership to engage members at all levels through peaceful reconciliation.

According to him, the exercise, which saw candidates emerge through unanimous agreement, is a testament to the party’s growing maturity in the state.

“I am pleased to inform the public that through the mechanisms provided by the ADC leadership, we have achieved a huge success by getting most of the local governments, if not all, to agree on a consensus basis,” Ahmed said.

Citing the example of Biu Local Government, he noted that the “critical stakeholders” in the area worked together to ensure a faction-free process.

“As you can see today, there is no faction in Biu. They have unanimously agreed within themselves to work together to see this matter to victory,” he added.

While praising the consensus option, the committee chairman clarified that the party remains committed to democratic principles, noting that other internal mechanisms, including full elections, remain on the table should dialogue fail.

He said: “We have other internal mechanisms, including grounds for elections, to resolve situations amicably should there be a failure in the consensus option. What you are seeing here are those who have already been screened and attested to.”
