Efforts to boost grassroots mobilisation in support of President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections have intensified, with the City Boy Movement expanding its operational structure in Oyo State.

The youth-driven support group, which promotes the President’s Renewed Hope agenda, has appointed Olufemi Onireti as Director of its Oyo State chapter as part of a broader strategy to consolidate support across key states.

The announcement was made in Abuja by the movement’s National Director-General, Mr. Francis Shoga, during the formal presentation of Onireti’s appointment letter.

The development comes amid ongoing political realignments, including Onireti’s recent resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he was a prominent member and former House of Representatives candidate.

According to the group’s leadership, his appointment was based on his wide political network, organisational capacity, and strong grassroots and youth engagement—qualities seen as critical to advancing the movement’s mobilisation efforts.

The expansion is expected to reposition the group’s activities in Oyo State and enhance its outreach as political actors intensify early preparations for the 2027 elections.

Speaking with journalists in Ibadan, Onireti expressed appreciation for the confidence placed in him and pledged to strengthen the movement’s presence in the state.

“I am committed to galvanising our structures and ensuring that Oyo State remains a stronghold for the ideals we stand for,” he said.

He explained that his decision to align with the ruling party was driven by personal conviction and evolving political dynamics, as well as a commitment to supporting a broader progressive coalition at both state and national levels.

Onireti added that his emergence followed consultations with his supporters and stakeholders, assuring that his leadership would focus on inclusiveness, strategic mobilisation and effective communication.

Meanwhile, the City Boy Movement is expected to unveil a new operational roadmap in the coming days, detailing plans to deepen grassroots engagement as part of a coordinated nationwide strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections.
