ABUJA – AHEAD of 2027 election, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Borno State, Dr. Abiso Kabir, has formally announced that he will not be contesting in Borno governorship.
Kabir made the disclosure to clear the air during an interaction with newsmen, and according to the APC chieftain, his announcement was not farfetched based on his wide consultations, inputs from his family, close associates, and business partners played a significant role in shaping his final position including his personal considerations on various factors.
He further stated that he will rather throw his full weight behind whoever emerges as the party’s candidate.
According to him, there had been increasing calls from his supporters and other political stakeholders urging him to join the race.
The APC stalwart expressed deep appreciation to his supporters across the state who had shown confidence in his leadership capacity and encouraged him to run for the governorship.
He, however, urged them to remain committed to the party’s collective interest by supporting the eventual APC candidate.
He said his decision is in the interest of party cohesion and broader political stability, saying “After much consideration from my family, friends, and business partners, I decided to give it a thought by not contesting any seat, but rather give my support.”
However, he (Kabir) maintained that that unity of the party remains sacrosanct with the 2027 elections fast approaching, therefore, it is imperative for all members to close ranks to enhance the APC’s chances of ensure the party retains its political dominance in Borno State.
He further reaffirmed his commitment to grassroots mobilisation and political engagement, noting that his focus would remain on strengthening the party’s structure at the local level and contributing to national development efforts.
“I remain committed to the growth of my state and the APC in general. I will continue to do my grassroots mobilisation for Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the growth and development of the country”, he added.
Aside being a chieftain of the APC, Kabir has served as the North-East Coordinator of the Buhari Campaign Organisation (BCO) from 2015 to 2019.
He later held the position of National Chairman of the Buhari–Osinbajo Support Groups between 2019 and 2023.
He is currently the National Chairman of the Forum of Tinubu/Shettima Support Groups, a role he has occupied since 2023.
In addition, Kabir served as Deputy Director of Special Duties in the Presidential Campaign Council for the 2023 elections and has been a member of various All Progressives Congress (APC) National Committees on Convention and Elections.
Beyond politics, he is the President of the Association of Business Specialists and Entrepreneurs of Nigeria and also serves as Chairman of the Walwanne Group.
