BENIN CITY – Barely two days after its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has commenced mobilisation in Edo State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

A member of the NEC disclosed that the party resolved to begin a membership drive in line with provisions of the Electoral Act, while party primaries are expected to commence from April 7.

In Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, the party has intensified efforts to attract new members through a series of meetings. At one of such gatherings over the weekend, businessman and philanthropist, Dr. Thomas Attah, declared his intention to contest for the party’s ticket for the Akoko-Edo Federal Constituency.

In his declaration speech, Attah said his decision to join the race was driven by a desire to contribute to the development of the constituency and improve the living conditions of residents.

He noted that his aspiration is centred on promoting inclusive development and encouraging greater civic participation among the people.

According to him, “My decision is rooted in a firm conviction that the time has come for us to do things differently, and for our people to become active participants in shaping their future.”

Attah said his focus would include addressing challenges affecting key groups such as farmers, traders, and young people, as well as supporting initiatives that enhance education, infrastructure, and community development.

He also emphasised the importance of collaboration between leaders and citizens in achieving sustainable progress.

“It is about creating opportunities for our children, strengthening our communities, and ensuring that our people can pursue their daily activities in a safe and supportive environment,” he said.

Attah added that he is committed to promoting policies and programmes that will enhance economic activities, improve access to basic services, and position Akoko-Edo for long-term growth.
