Zangon Kataf Youths call for rotation of Reps seat ahead of 2027

Youth leaders from Zangon Kataf Local Government Area have called for the House of Representatives seat for the Zangon Kataf/Jaba Federal Constituency to return to Zangon Kataf ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The youths, representing the Bajju, Atyap, Ikulu and Kamantan ethnic groups, made the call during a press conference on Thursday.

In a statement read by the National Chairman of the Anghan Youth Development Association, Ezekiel Samaila, the group appealed to the state government and political stakeholders to respect what they described as an established rotational arrangement between Zangon Kataf and Jaba Local Government Area in the representation of the federal constituency.

According to the youths, political stability in the constituency has historically been supported by an informal understanding that allows each local government area to hold the seat for two terms.

They noted that the current member representing the constituency in the House of Representatives, Amos Magaji from Jaba LGA, is completing his second term in office.

The group stated that by the end of the current tenure, Jaba would have held the seat for eight years, adding that considerations of equity and fairness support a return of the position to Zangon Kataf.

They also cited voter registration figures which, according to them, show that Zangon Kataf has about 180,998 registered voters compared to about 66,948 in Jaba LGA.

While reaffirming their commitment to peaceful coexistence with neighbouring communities, the youths stressed that adherence to the rotational arrangement would help maintain political harmony in the constituency.

“We believe in the leadership and commitment of the Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, to fairness and justice. We therefore urge the state government and party leadership to ensure that the rotation agreement is respected,” the statement said.

The youth leaders also urged political actors to avoid actions that could undermine unity in the constituency, noting that respect for internal political arrangements remains important for sustaining peace.

They added that their position is supported by youth organisations in the area, including the youth wing of the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union and the National Youth Council of Nigeria chapter in Zangon Kataf.

The group said it remains committed to dialogue and peaceful engagement with stakeholders as the 2027 electoral cycle approaches.
