Somotun celebrates fashion brand with Nigerian heritage

Ilorin-born, London-based designer Folashade Abraham Somotun is redefining African modern fashion through her brand, RERANÍ, which bridges tradition and contemporary style.

Operating between London and Abuja, Folashade’s work sits at the intersection of heritage, craftsmanship and modern identity. Inspired by the words of her grandmother, who often reminded her that fabrics carry stories, her creations are more than garments; they are expressions of memory, culture, and personal presence.

With roots in Ilorin, Kwara State, and a home in London, Folashade designs for women who carry quiet confidence, women who choose intention over fleeting trends and seek clothing that feels both powerful and deeply personal.

Through RERANÍ, she produces small-batch pieces that celebrate African textiles, handwoven techniques, and thoughtful construction. Her work reflects a philosophy of African modernism, where heritage meets contemporary silhouettes, honouring the past while speaking to the present.

“RERANÍ was born from a desire to celebrate Nigerian culture through contemporary design,” Folashade explains. “Nigeria’s heritage and artistry provide a powerful foundation for creating clothing that carries meaning and identity.”

The brand operates between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, bringing African craftsmanship into a modern global conversation. By working with traditional textiles and intentional production methods, RERANÍ seeks to preserve cultural techniques while presenting them in refined, wearable forms for today’s woman.

For Folashade, fashion is ultimately about identity in motion. Each RERANÍ piece is designed with intention, grounded in heritage, shaped by craft, and refined for the modern world.
