The Kogi State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Monday Aridaojo Anyebe, has described the Champion Award presented to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo as a clear reflection of the administration’s deliberate commitment to empowering young people and strengthening security across the state.
The award, presented by Champion Newspapers Limited at a ceremony held at Eko Hotels & Suites, recognised Governor Ododo as the Champion Governor of the Year in Youth Development and Security for 2025.
Speaking shortly after receiving the award on behalf of the Governor, Anyebe said the recognition did not come as a surprise, noting that the Ododo administration has continued to place youth empowerment, sports development, and community security at the centre of its governance agenda.
According to him, the award is not only a personal recognition for the Governor but also a validation of the administration’s policies and programmes aimed at creating opportunities for young people while ensuring safer communities across Kogi State.
“This recognition reflects the clear commitment of this administration to create meaningful opportunities for young people and to strengthen the safety of our communities,” Anyebe said.
He noted that since assuming office, Governor Ododo has consistently demonstrated strong support for youth-focused initiatives, job creation programmes, and sports development efforts designed to harness the potential of young people in the state.
The commissioner added that the Governor’s leadership style has encouraged collaboration across different sectors of government in order to provide a supportive environment where young people can thrive and contribute positively to the development of the state.
Anyebe further stated that the administration’s efforts in strengthening security architecture and promoting youth engagement have helped foster stability and confidence among residents, particularly young people who are increasingly becoming active participants in governance and community development.
He described the award as an encouragement for the government to continue pursuing policies that prioritise youth empowerment, peace, and sustainable development.
“The recognition by Champion Newspapers is a reminder that the work being done in Kogi State is being noticed across the country. It encourages us to continue working harder for the people, especially our youths who represent the future of our state,” he added.
The Commissioner also commended the organisers for recognising leadership that promotes youth development and societal security, noting that such awards help highlight governance models that place people at the centre of development.
The award ceremony attracted several government officials, stakeholders, and dignitaries from across the country who gathered to celebrate outstanding contributions to governance and national development.
For Kogi State, the honour serves as another milestone highlighting the growing recognition of the administration’s efforts in empowering young people, strengthening security, and advancing inclusive development across the state.
