Officials of the Nigerian Diaspora Youth Ambassador (NDYA) have met with the Vietnamese Ambassador to Nigeria, Bui Quoc Hung, over seamless communication and welfare of Nigerian youth living and studying in the Southeast Asian country.
Speaking during the courtesy visit at the Vietnamese Embassy in Abuja, President of NDYA, Amb. David Victor Alozie, said the meeting was to find a solution to the issue of school fees payment, security, visa renewal and other logistics faced by Nigerians living in Vietnam, especially the youth.
He said there was a need for a Nigerian youth representative to be inaugurated in Vietnam in order to facilitate seamless communication, especially in matters affecting the youth, saying he will discuss the outcome of the meeting with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other authorities.
He said: “We came to Vietnamese Embassy today to talk about Nigerians living or studying in Vietnam. We wanted to relate with the ambassador on issues affecting Nigerians in Vietnam and solutions. I thank God that we had a very successful meeting with the Ambassador.
“As we discussed with the Ambassador, they will definitely work on issues of school fees payment because students are finding it difficult to pay school fees directly from Nigerian banks to Vietnamese school. We discussed the schools over there and other things, which the Ambassador promised they will look into.
“Now, we are also working on getting a representative over there, which we approved. We will try our best to relate to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the federal government. We will also try our best for Mr. President and his wife, because I know they have the Nigerian youth in mind.
“They always hear the cry of the youth, both in Nigeria and in the diaspora. We will try our best to relate developments to them because it’s not only in Vietnam that such things are happening. They’re also happening in other countries. But by the grace of God, we will still touch other places such things are happening. We will look for the solution and work on it.”
“The task is to make sure our youth over there in different countries are in a good, conducive environment. Their safety matters a lot to us. We will try our best to reach out to NIDCOM, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. President and other authorities.
“Vietnam has a very nice Ambassador, who has the Nigerian youth in mind. We really discussed a lot. His main aim is to ensure the safety of the Nigerian youth over there. By the grace of God, we shared an idea and told them to look at the solution.
“We believe that things will still work out in Vietnam, which he approved. He said that it is now left for us to discuss whichever assistance we want. He will definitely help us to make sure that our youth are safe over there,” he added.
Also speaking, the Vietnamese Ambassador to Nigeria, Bui Quoc Hung, said the meeting suggested measures and solutions to help the Nigerian youth overseas in integrating to the world and also coming back to help their own country.
He said: “The meeting is about the youth diaspora of Nigeria living overseas and also the youth people in Vietnam. We shared a great deal of information, our understanding about the role of the Vietnamese overseas and also the role of Nigerian diaspora. We shared a great deal about the measures and solutions in order to help the Nigerian youth overseas integrate to the world and also come back to help their own country.
“We also shared our perspective on collaboration and cooperation between Vietnam and Nigeria, addressing youth situation, addressing youth issue and problems. It is in order to help youth from Nigeria and in order to enhance the good relations between youth of the two countries and to a larger extent to enhance and promote the good relations between Vietnam and Nigeria.
“In fact, we like information about each other a lot and we also like information about youth from Nigeria or youth from Vietnam. I think we will have a kind of platform or mechanism to enhance our cooperation, enhance our relations and collaboration so that we can have something concrete projects, promoting the understanding and cooperation between youth of the two countries.”
On his part, NDYA Legal Adviser, Barrister Chekwube Eze, said, with the outcome of the courtesy visit, there will be an interface between Nigeria and Vietnam in terms of youth development.
He said: “At the end of the meeting today, we were able to have an approval that there may need to be a meeting over there in Vietnam to inaugurate and then put in place a youth representative in Vietnam.
“There will actually be an interface between Nigeria and Vietnam in terms of youth development. When we have those structures, we can be able to say that anybody travelling to Vietnam is informed on what they are going to see; either in business, education or craft.
“There will be a bridging of the gap of information we usually have because Nigerians are not informed of what they are expecting in Vietnam.”
Others in the entourage included NDYA Director of Travel and Tourism; Engr. Comrade Stephanie Pam; and NDYA National Secretary, Comrade Jacob Apollos.
