The MapleAfrica Alliance, a Canada–Africa collaboration platform, has donated two fire trucks to Zamfara State in a move aimed at strengthening emergency response capacity in Nigeria’s North-West region.

The initiative, carried out in partnership with Firefighters Without Borders, an international volunteer organisation that supports fire and emergency services in underserved communities, is designed to enhance the state’s ability to respond to fire outbreaks and other emergencies.

According to the organisation, the donation reflects the potential of partnerships between Africa and members of its global diaspora to deliver practical solutions that improve safety and community resilience.

The team that coordinated the initiative under MapleAfrica Alliance includes Akeem Ameen, Maryam Ameen, Akeem Dosunmu, Adeola Bukoye and Abdikarim Omar. The group said the effort aligns with its vision of strengthening ties between Canada and Africa through impact-driven collaboration.

Zamfara State, located in Nigeria’s North-West, is known for its rich cultural heritage and natural resources, including gold and other solid minerals. The organisation noted that strengthening emergency infrastructure is critical for protecting lives and property, particularly in communities where such facilities are still developing.

It added that the donation of the fire trucks would support local authorities in responding more effectively to fire incidents, industrial hazards and other emergencies, thereby contributing to public safety and community resilience.

MapleAfrica Alliance said the initiative also reflects its broader mission of building mutually beneficial relationships between Canada and African countries through trade, technology, cultural exchange and community development.

The organisation emphasised the role of diaspora communities in supporting development efforts across Africa, noting that Nigerians abroad possess significant expertise in areas such as business, technology, healthcare and education.

It encouraged greater collaboration between the diaspora and local institutions through mentorship, investment, philanthropy and knowledge sharing to support sustainable development.

According to the group, the Zamfara donation highlights how targeted partnerships and community-driven initiatives can contribute to meaningful progress and improved public services.
