Jalingo — The Governors of Taraba and Benue states, Dr. Agbu Kefas and Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, have visited communities along their shared borders, pledging to resettle displaced persons back to their ancestral homes.
Speaking at a meeting at the Palace of the Aku Uka of Wukari, HRM Dr. Ishaku Adda Ali, Governor Alia said he, alongside a delegation from Benue State—including the Tor Tiv, Prof. James Ayatse—was in Taraba to explore lasting solutions to border crises.
“As neighboring states facing similar security challenges, it is crucial that we work together to restore peace and ensure the safety of lives and property,” he said, commending the Aku Uka for his continued contributions to peace-building efforts locally and nationally.
Governor Kefas described the meeting as a demonstration of both leaders’ commitment to ending security threats along their borders. He announced the formation of a joint committee to implement the resolutions reached and ensure follow-up actions.
During a visit to Chanchanji, a temporary settlement for displaced persons in Taraba, Kefas assured residents of a safe and timely return to their homes. He also promised additional relief support covering food, shelter, potable water, and medical care.
Governor Alia further demonstrated solidarity by donating ₦10 million to support displaced persons.
The Special Adviser to Governor Kefas on Digital Economy, Justin Tyopuusu, lauded both governors for the initiative, noting that approximately 90,000 displaced persons remain in need of support. He called for strategic deployment of security forces to the Chanchanji hinterlands to facilitate a safe resettlement.
