SOKOTO — The Executive Chairman of Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Hon. Sharehu Abubakar Kamarawa, has condoled with residents of Bargaja village over a recent bandit attack, while cautioning against what he described as “dangerous propaganda” capable of worsening Nigeria’s fragile security situation.

In a statement issued on Monday, Kamarawa expressed deep sympathy with families affected by the attack, stressing that communities already grappling with insecurity should not be further burdened by the spread of misinformation.

He warned that false narratives and exaggerated reports, particularly on social media, could incite panic, undermine security operations, and embolden criminal elements.

According to him, the Sokoto State Government under the leadership of Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto remains committed to protecting lives and property, especially in rural communities facing persistent threats from banditry.

Kamarawa disclosed that security forces have been actively conducting operations in the Bargaja axis over the past six days, successfully repelling several attempted attacks and preventing further casualties.

He commended the efforts of security personnel, describing them as gallant and resilient in the face of ongoing threats, and noted that their interventions have helped stabilise affected communities.

The council boss, however, expressed concern over viral online reports which he said misrepresented the situation on the ground while ignoring the sacrifices of security operatives.

“Some individuals are deliberately spreading distorted accounts that amplify the activities of criminals rather than acknowledge ongoing efforts to protect our communities,” he said.

He further alleged that certain actors behind the misinformation could be politically motivated, aiming to destabilise the state for personal gain.

Kamarawa also dismissed allegations circulating online regarding the diversion or mismanagement of security funds in Isa Local Government Area, describing them as baseless and challenging those making the claims to provide credible evidence.

He clarified that neither the council nor his office had authorised any individual to collect money from residents under the guise of security operations.

Highlighting ongoing efforts to strengthen security coordination, the chairman cited a recent incident in Tidibale community, where early warning from a local councillor enabled residents to evacuate before a potential attack.

He added that security agencies have since established a Forward Operating Base in the area to enhance surveillance and improve rapid response to threats.

The chairman emphasised that tackling banditry requires collective responsibility, urging citizens to support security agencies with timely and credible information.

“At a time when communities across Nigeria are confronting serious security challenges, what we need most is unity, vigilance, and responsible communication,” he said.

Kamarawa called on social media users, community leaders, and political actors to prioritise national interest over partisan narratives, warning that misinformation could deepen fear and instability.

“Peace is a shared responsibility, and protecting our communities begins with protecting the truth,” he added.
