KAFANCHAN – A local group, Sanga LGA Indigenes of Conscience, has urged that the Jema’a/Sanga Federal House of Representatives seat be rotated to Sanga Local Government Area ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The call was made on Thursday during a press conference in Kafanchan, Kaduna State. Gideon Audu, Secretary of the group, explained that Sanga has never produced a representative for the constituency since Nigeria returned to democratic rule in 1999.

He highlighted that other constituencies within Kaduna South Senatorial District with joint local government arrangements have successfully rotated positions among component councils, while the Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency has been largely dominated by Jema’a Local Government Area.

“This long-standing situation amounts to political marginalisation,” Audu said, noting that for nearly 27 years, Sanga has not occupied the seat in the Green Chamber.

Audu clarified that the group’s position is not meant to discredit past representatives from Jema’a, but rather to promote fairness, justice, and inclusiveness in the political process. He emphasised that zoning and rotation are democratic mechanisms designed to sustain equity, peaceful coexistence, and balanced representation in multi-local government constituencies.

The group cited Zangon Kataf/Jaba and Kachia/Kagarko Federal Constituencies as examples where rotational arrangements have maintained political harmony.

Audu urged political office holders, traditional rulers, political parties, community associations, and other stakeholders to support the rotation of the House of Representatives seat to Sanga in 2027. He also appealed to indigenes of Jema’a Local Government Area to voluntarily step aside in the next election cycle to allow Sanga its turn.

“Both Jema’a and Sanga are equal stakeholders. Allowing Sanga its turn will foster unity, strengthen democratic values, and promote a sense of belonging among the people,” Audu concluded.
