ABUJA — A coalition of civil society organisations under the Grassroots Mobilisation Initiative (GMI) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it described as a governance approach focused on grassroots development under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
In a letter addressed to the President, the group praised what it termed a “First Family style” of governance, noting that it brings leadership closer to ordinary Nigerians. The letter, signed by the National Coordinator of GMI, Samaila Musa, was also endorsed by the Democracy Watch Initiative (DWI) and the Congress of Nigerian Youths and Civil Society Organisations (CONYSO).
According to the coalition, the administration’s strength lies in a three-pronged approach that combines presidential leadership, humanitarian interventions by the First Lady, and youth mobilisation efforts.
Musa said the group had observed that the administration’s approach integrates the President’s leadership, the First Lady’s social programmes and youth engagement initiatives aimed at strengthening grassroots participation in governance.
He commended the President for steering the country through reforms, noting that the transition from stabilisation in 2025 to what the group described as an acceleration phase in 2026 was beginning to reflect in communities.
Musa cited initiatives such as the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme and infrastructure projects under the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates initiative as examples of policies designed to improve livelihoods and create employment opportunities.
The coalition also praised the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her humanitarian interventions through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), describing her efforts as supportive of grassroots development.
According to Musa, programmes aimed at addressing child malnutrition and initiatives designed to empower women and vulnerable groups have contributed to community development in different parts of the country.
He also noted her recent call for the wives of the 36 state governors to strengthen the RHI at the grassroots level as part of efforts to expand the initiative’s reach.
The coalition further commended youth engagement efforts associated with Seyi Tinubu, noting that initiatives encouraging interaction with young people, including community leaders and entrepreneurs, have promoted broader participation in civic activities.
Musa said platforms such as the City Boy Movement (CBM), alongside other initiatives involving youth and women, have contributed to expanding youth involvement in development programmes.
The coalition urged the administration to sustain policies that encourage inclusive governance and strengthen grassroots participation across the country.
