The Benue State Government has intensified efforts to roll out the Solutions for the Internally Displaced and Host Communities Project, SOLID, as part of its strategy to drive inclusive development and provide sustainable solutions for displaced populations.

At a high-level meeting held in Makurdi, the Deputy Governor, Dr Sam Ode, led discussions with the state’s SOLID implementation team and top government officials to assess readiness for the project.

Information Officer of the Benue State Bureau for International Cooperation and Development, BICD, Julie Okemyi in a statement said the initiative is a flagship programme of Governor Hyacinth Alia.

She said it is aimed at delivering long-term livelihoods for Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, and host communities, while shifting focus away from short-term humanitarian relief.

Speaking at the meeting, the Deputy Governor emphasized the broader vision behind the project, noting that it is designed to restore dignity and build resilience among affected populations.

“The initiative reflects this administration’s commitment to restoring dignity and building resilience to ensure lasting impact,” he said.

Ode added that the government is determined to ensure the project translates into measurable improvements in the lives of vulnerable groups across the state.

As part of the next steps, the SOLID team has been directed to finalize all necessary preparations for presentation to the State Executive Council for approval, an indication that the government is nearing full implementation of the programme, the statement said.
