The Arewa Youth Assembly has celebrated Lawal Sade, popularly known as Jagaban Matasan Arewa, on the occasion of his birthday, describing him as a role model for Nigerian youths and a respected figure in the nation’s oil and gas sector.

The group also announced that March 14 would henceforth be observed annually by members of the assembly as “World Lawal Sade Day,” in recognition of what it described as his contributions to national development and youth empowerment.

In a statement issued by its Speaker, Mohammed Salihu Danlami, the Assembly praised Sade’s professional journey and leadership within Nigeria’s petroleum industry, noting that his career reflects discipline, competence and dedication to service.

According to the statement, Sade’s rise from an Accounting Officer at the New Nigeria Development Company in 1992 to Managing Director of NNPC Trading Limited illustrates perseverance and strategic leadership.

The Assembly said Sade belongs to a group of Nigerian professionals whose achievements are built on long-term performance and experience, adding that his career continues to inspire younger generations.

It noted that prior to his appointment at NNPC Trading Limited, he served as Managing Director of Nigerian Independent Shipowners Association (NIDAS), where the group said his leadership helped strengthen Nigeria’s engagement in the global maritime sector.

The statement also credited him with facilitating the readmission of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited into the Oil Companies International Marine Forum after a seven-year absence.

According to the Assembly, Sade’s tenure at NNPC Trading Limited recorded significant commercial growth, with the organisation’s revenue increasing between 2020 and 2021, while trading activities generated billions of dollars in subsequent years.

The group further highlighted operational reforms under his leadership, including a reduction in demurrage costs and measures aimed at improving efficiency within the organisation.

It added that Sade also supported initiatives promoting energy transition, including the Small Scale LNG Project aimed at expanding the use of liquefied natural gas for Autogas, CNG and industrial consumption across Nigeria.

Beyond his professional achievements, the Assembly described Sade as a philanthropist and mentor who has supported youth and women empowerment through initiatives that encourage entrepreneurship and economic opportunities.

“Mallam Lawal Sade stands as an example of how integrity, competence and humility can contribute to national development,” the statement said.

The Assembly prayed for continued good health and wisdom for the oil industry executive, expressing hope that his achievements would continue to inspire younger Nigerians.
