ADC Kaduna chairman warns against interference, reaffirms control

By Ibrahim Hassan-Wuyo

The Kaduna State Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Hon. Ahmad Tijjani Mustapha, has cautioned against what he described as “unlawful interference” in the party’s affairs ahead of its scheduled congresses.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday at the party’s state headquarters in Kaduna, Mustapha said the ADC has made significant progress in strengthening its structures across the state, maintaining a presence in all 23 Local Government Areas, with a majority of wards operational.

He explained that the State Executive Committee (SEC) has focused on expanding membership through both electronic and manual registration, alongside enhancing grassroots engagement. Mustapha added that the state leadership recently visited the party’s national secretariat to discuss preparations for the forthcoming ward, local government, and state congresses, as well as the national convention.

However, Mustapha raised concerns over the actions of an individual claiming a zonal position within the party, noting that the matter is subject to judicial determination at the Federal Capital Territory High Court. He warned that such actions could undermine internal processes and create disagreements within the state party structure.

“The authority to organise congresses at the ward, local government, and state levels rests with the State Executive Committee,” Mustapha said, emphasising that the tenure of the current state executive remains valid until May 12, 2026, as documented by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He added that any actions taken outside the recognised party structure would not be acknowledged by the state chapter.

Mustapha reaffirmed the ADC leadership’s commitment to conducting transparent and inclusive congresses in line with the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines. He called on party members and stakeholders to remain calm and support the leadership as it prepares for the upcoming internal exercises.

He also reiterated the party’s dedication to internal democracy and accountability, expressing confidence that the ADC in Kaduna is ready to play a significant role in the 2027 general elections.
