A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, Prince Kunle Musediq Adelakun, popularly known as “Eruobodo,” has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election, pledging to fully realise President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda in the state.

The declaration, held at Methodist Primary School, Oke Adu, Ibadan, drew party leaders, traditional rulers, and supporters from across Oyo State. Adelakun described his ambition as a “divinely ordained project,” aimed at ensuring that every citizen benefits from the dividends of democracy.

He unveiled a People-Oriented Development (POD) framework, prioritising key sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, security, and economic development. “Our mission is to place the people at the centre of governance and ensure that every citizen enjoys the full dividends of democracy,” Adelakun said.

The APC aspirant emphasised that the 2027 election presents an opportunity to align Oyo State with progressive national reforms, stressing that the spirit of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda must be embraced and fulfilled at the state level.

Adelakun pledged to empower youths, women, and small-scale entrepreneurs through skills development, financial support, and job creation initiatives. In agriculture, he promised modern equipment and incentives to boost productivity and food security. On infrastructure, he outlined plans for road construction, rehabilitation, and improved rural connectivity to stimulate trade and economic growth.

He also proposed an open and accountable government driven by technology and innovation. Highlighting social policies, Adelakun promised the creation of a Ministry of Social Welfare and Humanitarian Services to cater to vulnerable groups, subsidised tertiary education up to 200 level, and scholarships for outstanding students.

In healthcare, he vowed to prevent hospitals from rejecting emergency patients while improving access and quality of services across the state. Adelakun also pledged to respect and strengthen traditional institutions, particularly the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, to preserve Yoruba culture and values.

The governorship hopeful criticised “political opportunists” for perpetuating poverty and underdevelopment, urging unity and collective responsibility among citizens. He expressed strong support for President Tinubu, commending his national leadership and reform efforts.

Drawing inspiration from notable Yoruba leaders including Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Oba Adesoji Aderemi, Chief Bola Ige, Chief Ladoke Akintola, Alhaji Lam Adesina, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, and Chief Bisi Akande, Adelakun pledged to restore Oyo State’s reputation as the “Pacesetter State” through progressive governance.

He called on the people of Oyo State to support his ambition, expressing confidence in being sworn in as governor on 29 May 2027.
